Day 9: FARGO, North Dakota

Today we traveled until we arrived in Fargo.  We ended up staying because we couldn't find a camping spot over Labor Day weekend in Minnesota.  Tomorrow we'll be at Lake Itasca, headwaters of the Mississippi River!  I'm so excited!!

Saw this Monarch butterfly in a rest area parking lot...

We did find our fun in Fargo though!  Scott got caught in the wood chipper from the movie Fargo.  It's at the Visitor and Information Center - the actual wood chipper from the movie is inside but this one affords a perfect photo op!  We asked about kuchen, got sent to Hornbacher's Foods (grocery store), asked in the bakery and got help from the nicest German lady - bought 2 kuchen and lefse on her recommendation.

Next stop - Widman's Candy for Widman's Chippers, chocolate covered potato chips.  Surprisingly good!  We also tried chocolate covered olive (Scott) and chocolate covered dill pickle (Pat)!  Not for us!  The girl in the candy shop said they sell lots of pickles!

We met a man and his wife from South Dakota at dinner.  This is what he said about his state; if your dog runs away, South Dakota is so flat you can see him for 2 days, 3 if he has a bushy tail!
