View down river from Journey Behind the Falls

Journey Behind the Falls deck

Horseshoe Falls - 600,000 gallons of water per second flows over Horseshoe Falls.

In the upper right hand corner is a scow whose tow line broke so it was set adrift with 2 men on board.    The men survived...  they were rescued by a breeches-bouy attached from a powerhouse on the shore to the rig.  The line got tangled and a famous dare-devil of the time, Red Hill, swung himself out hand over hand until he got to the obstruction and untangled the line.  The scow has been stuck in the rapids since August of 1918.

Maid of the Mist

Scott on the Maid of the Mist

American Falls and the smaller Bridal Veil Falls to the right.  Only 10% of the water in the Niagara River flows over American Falls, while 90% flows over Horseshoe Falls.

American Falls is on the US side of the Niagara River.  150,000 gallons per second flows over American Falls.

Horseshoe Falls is an international falls, shared by both Canada and the US.  The water is also shared equally (for power) and 50% never even reaches the falls - it is syphoned out of the river into two gigantic pipes to both countries.

I got a little wet taking pictures!

Scott is all bundled up!

There is always a rainbow on American Falls when the sun is shining.

Double rainbow!

Rainbow Bridge and NY State Observation Tower

Skylon Tower - we ate dinner in the revolving restaurant tonight.  The view was beautiful with the falls illuminated.

View from tower after dinner, American Falls.

We stayed 2 days on Grand Island - Jaden, can you find it on the map?  Hooray - saw 2 more states today, New Jersey and Ohio!
