Day 18: BUTTERFLIES and Math

MATH Problem
First and second graders, get out 50 counters if you think you'll need them.  Here's my problem:  Scott and I have been looking for state license plates on our trip and we don't know how many we've found. Can you help us?  We saw two more states today:  Massachusetts and Connecticut, but how many does that make?  There are 50 states and we have 14 left to find.  So how many states have we already seen?

Niagara Parks BUTTERFLY CONSERVATORY

We walked into the butterfly pavilion and it was amazing - I'd never seen so many butterflies flying around, according to the sign 40 different varieties!  I took lots of pictures, so enjoy!

  1. Mrs. Van Nice!!! It's like you were here today. Colter found an injured butterfly and I had just gone to your room for a cotton ball, staff fridge for sunnyD and we made a bug container for it. Then....we checked out your blog and holy cow. You were all about butterflies too!

We will have to work out the Math Problem tomorrow. We need time to get out counters!

  2. First graders worked 30 minutes to get the answer to your math problem. Several groups worked together to problem solve and compared answers. Cabella did our final check....we say 36 is how many states you have found if you have 14 left to find! Thanks for the brain exercise!
