Canadian Maritimes

Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia

The photo of Peggy's Cove was taken from this memorial; a very peaceful, reflective place.

Lighthouse at Peggy's Cove off the Nova Scotia coast.

Saint John, New Brunswick
We took a walking tour of Saint John and one of the most interesting places we visited was City Market.  It has been in use since 1876 and is believed to be the oldest in Canada.  The interior roof is reminiscent of a ship's hull.

A fun sculpture of people waiting for the bus - I caught another photographer taking a picture of the art!

Man reading the paper...

Chubb's Corner

The carved stone heads on this building evoked the following comment from the press at the time.  "We trust no more of our buildings will be adorned by such buffoonery from his hands."

Old Post Office
One of three figureheads carved in the keystones above the door and 2 downstairs windows.

Palatine Building
Gargoyles found on this building - I like the dog!

Many of the buildings had this fence around the gardens or flower boxes.  They really want to keep something out!

Church of St. Andrew and St. David

Fish weathervane at the top of the church.

Many people stopped and took a photo, including me!

And Scott...

Barbour's General Store
This store is now a museum and visitor's information center.  And you can buy a variety of Barbour's products or order a cup of tea.

The Three Sisters
This lamp has guided ships into the harbor at Saint John since 1848.

The seaward side of the lamp is red.

McDonalds
In Canada we saw the McLobster roll at McDonalds - didn't try it but thought it was funny!

This is a gate is designed so that moose can get off the highways, but the gate won't allow them back inside the fenced highway area.
