Connecticut Coast

RJ Julia Booksellers
Madison had a community scarecrow contest with scarecrows everywhere!  This was my favorite in front of the book store.  Awesome bookseller; I could have browsed for hours!

Hammonasset Beach State Park

This was a beautiful beach; public beaches all have lifeguards, changing rooms, consession stands, and huge parking lots.  This beach also has a museum with all kinds of live critters - frogs, snakes, lizards, turtles, birds, and more.  You can reserve it for your next birthday!

Louis Lunch

Claim to have invented the first hamburger sandwich!  Served on toast with tomato and grilled onions AND NO CATSUP!  We sat in old Yale school desks to eat our burgers.

Goodspeed Opera House
Amazing setting on the banks of the Connecticut River and very opulent inside.  Built in 1877, it fell into disrepair but in 1963 was restored to its original splendor.  This is the 50th year of Goodspeed musicals.

We saw the musical The Most Happy Fella.

  1. Thomas and I saw Louis Lunch on TV not too long ago. Their vertical grills looked amazing! How was the burger?

  2. The burgers were all about the meat and I liked them. The guy cooking burgers, his wife stopped by to introduce their baby daughter to the older guy so it was a very family friendly place. Then the dad fixed burgers for his wife and 3 year old son. The older guy greeted everyone by name as they entered and took their orders.
