Atlantic City

On a whim we decided to drive over to Atlantic City for the evening to see the devastation from Hurricane Sandy.  We arrived on the Boardwalk just as it started to drizzle so we hailed a push-cart and rode about a mile to see the sights (casinos mostly).  Push-carts were originally used to transport disabled Civil War veteran's to the healing waters of hotels on the boardwalk.

This is a cart like the one we rode in, our guide told us the history of Atlantic City's Boardwalk and the buildings.  We discovered Hurricane Sandy did no damage in Atlantic City because just months before they had added sand dunes, all planted by hand with natural grasses.

You can see the grasses right up next to the boardwalk in this picture.

Boardwalk Hall
This is where the Miss America Pagent takes place in Atlantic City.

Walk a little ways on a ramp and there's the Atlantic Ocean!

Did you know that the properties in Monopoly are all places in or around Atlantic City, New Jersey?  We walked on Boardwalk and drove down the streets of Atlantic, Pacific, Ventor, Pennsylvania, and Baltic to name a few!  We never did see Park Place!
