OREGON COAST - Yachats, Waldport & Cape Perpetua

YACHATS

The sun setting at Smelt Sands State Park.

DARLINGTONIA STATE NATURAL SITE
Cobra Lily

This carnivorous plant traps insects in its hollow tubular leaves.

Just outside Florence, this park is the only one in Oregon dedicated to the protection of
a single plant species.

The Skunk Cabbage was in full bloom when we walked the trail and very true to its name!

OCEAN VIEWS

Light playing on the waves.

SEA LION CAVES

SEA LIONS
Can you find the small dark spot in the ocean?  That's a group of sea lions!  What are they doing?

A group of sea lions in water is called a RAFT - what a great name!  These sea lions do
look like a floating raft!  A group on land is called a colony.

These sea lions are trying to regulate their body temperature.  They bunch together and
put their tails in the air!

Fishing boat out on the water...

Another amazing ocean view!

CAPE PERPETUA
Looking up, notice the stone shelter at Cape Perpetua.

Highway 101 winding along the Oregon coastline.  Devil's Churn and
Spouting Horn are both found along this stretch of highway.

CAPE PERPETUA STONE HUT

The Cape Perpetua West Shelter was built by the CCC (Civilian
Conservation Corp) in the winter of 1934.

Inside...

On a clear day you can see 70 miles of coastline and 37 miles out to
sea.  It's a great whale watching site!  Our best whale watching was
near Boiler Bay and the gray whales were only 200 yards from shore
at times!  Love it!
