South Beach Art Deco

It's Art Deco weekend in South Beach; an hour later Scott finally scores a parking space!  We did see lots of architecture while driving around looking for  a space.  Talked to one guy on the street - only $20.00 for 2 hours!  Needless to say we didn't take him up on it!

Miami Beach's Art Deco District is the first 20th century neighborhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, with over 800 structures of historic significance, most built between 1923 and 1943.

Historic Espanola Way of South Beach, Havanah 1957 fronts this street.

Scooters for sale or rent!

I didn't take a photo on the street but all the tents you see here were selling crafts, jewelry, food and drinks, toys, and antiques.

Casa Casaurina, once the home of Italian fashion designer, who was shot to death on the steps in 1997.  His killer died days later on a houseboat in Miami Beach.  The home is now a private, members only party mansion.  And for those of you following Justin Bieber, it's where he's staying while drag racing and resisting arrest here in Miami.

South Beach

Each life guard station was uniquely painted - hundreds of people on the beach today, 72 degrees and no wind.

Even the parking garage was Art Deco...

And finally we drove past the famous Fontainebleau Hotel.
